A number of complaints have been reported to Cyprus Police, concerning a new form of cyber-fraud and the theft of monetary amounts from citizens’ bank accounts.
The fraud is carried out by means of telephone text-messages – SMS, containing a malicious electronic link. The messages mention that citizens’ bank accounts have been locked and call citizens to follow the electronic link included in the messages, in order to verify their identity and solve the issue.
Citizens receiving such messages are advised to be extra cautious and to NOT follow the links mentioned in these messages, since there is danger of theft of money from their bank accounts.
